Panelists include Murphy Austin Managing Partner, J. Scott Alexander, Diversity Committee Chair and Partner Lisa D. Nicolls, and Access to Justice Program Leader and Partner Russell J. Austin with special guest McGeorge School of Law Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz discussing The Sacramento Legal Employers Diversity Collective and best practices for promoting and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in law schools and law firms. After hearing from our panelists, attendees will have the opportunity to join in the discussion, sharing what is working for their firms in these key areas.

The war in Ukraine is taking a terrible toll on the country’s courts, lawyers, and law schools. Bill Meyer, one of LEGUS’ early supporters and a 30-year veteran of international legal assistance programs, was tasked by a global consortium of legal organizations to develop a detailed snapshot of the status of the country’s legal system. His published report, “Under Assault: A Status Report on the Ukrainian Justice System in Wartime,” is a primer on the issues facing Ukrainian legal professionals during and after the conflict. Bill will describe the damage to the physical and human infrastructure of the country’s legal system, the personal and professional issues facing lawyers in the midst of a shooting war, and the immense challenges facing the Ukrainian legal system in a post-conflict environment.
